Willow Magic seems to have a real hard hitter in the form of the striking chestnut Mk's Pride. The Summerhill Stud bred colt blew past a talented field of three year olds yesterday to land his fourth win from only seven starts, in the manner of a colt that now understands what his job is. 

 

His performance underlines the promise he showed when beating the star filly War of Athena in the Ready-to-Run Cup confirming his right to be regarded as a leading light amongst a vintage crop of three year olds with a merit rating of 117.

 

Champion Jockey Warren Kennedy admitted that he thought it would be a tough task, taking on those horses at the weights but was quick to highlight the ease of victory: " He is quality this horse; I was happy to bide my time behind them with the top weight” (61kg’s).

 

“He was idling behind them, waiting for me to ask him to run and 300 out when I asked him to fetch them he quickened past them quite easily and had a good look around. He's still improving this horse, he's still got a way to go till you see the best of him." 

 

Tony Peter, assistant to his father Paul stated that they felt that he was better over the shorter trip and would be campaigned over distances from 1000 to 1400m in future. The stable seems to have supreme confidence in the future prospects of this impressive grandson of the great Dubawi.

 

Only time will tell us how good he is. Could the words of his ebullient owner M K Nkale be coming true? Could this horse be his "Summer Pudding".
